I'm jealous! I was fortunate to find one WWI letter that my grandfather had written to one of his sisters while he was in France. It had been published in the local paper! I know he wrote more than just the one letter, I'm also pretty sure that none of them survived.

This was a terrific post Wendy! I actually had this topic on my list for future COG topics. If you get a big response I probably won't do it. If you don't I probably will and you will already have yours done ;-)

The Missouri State Archives also is creating a database of Naturalization Records and the St. Louis County Library has an index for St. Louis 1906-1928 Naturalization records that the State archive doesn't yet contain.

If you're in the St. Louis area, I also have found the St. Louis Public Library's Obituary Search for the St. Louis Post Dispatch very helpful - but it only provides the date and page number, so you still need to have access to the microfilm.

A great, though sad, story. She's the kind of person that you'd like to meet and talk to just to see what made her tick. Her story almost sounds like fiction...which just goes to show that truth really is stranger than fiction! Thanks for sharing, and rest in peace, Eva.
